Young Pseudopanax plants will need protection from frost and cold temperatures. As the stems and branches mature and become woody these plants are very hardy. Pseudopanax plants will be defoliated in severe cold, quickly recovering in spring.

These New Zealand native plants will grow into an impressive sized if left unchecked. Pseudopanax arboretum does tolerate pruning well and can be pruned to suit their available space.

Caring for this plant:
Pseudopanax are easy to care for plants, especially mature specimens. Protect these young plants from severe cold weather using horticultural fleece. When 2-3 years old they will easily survive cold weather and provide lush foliage all year. Grows well in partial shade. Feed with organic high nitrogen fertiliser.
